Swedish Junior Golfers Compete in ANNIKA Cup
The 6th annual ANNIKA Cup, a tournament for 12 of the top Swedish female junior golfers, began on Tuesday. It is being held on Annika’s home course Bro-Balsta GK in Bro, Sweden. The concept of the tournament is to integrate training with a competition element, while also introducing drills and techniques Annika uses for herself and at her Academy.
The 12 girls split into two groups of six becoming the “lila” (purple) and the “rosa” (pink) teams coached by Annika’s longtime best friend, Maria and Lisa. On the first day of the tournament the teams
played singles and “Pink” beat “Purple.” The girls are all from various parts of Sweden and room together during the tournament. It’s a great opportunity for them to bond and make friends with other girls of the same age who are also talented, young, aspiring golfers.
Longtime Annika partner, Cutter & Buck provides the teams and coaches with clothes from the ANNIKA Collection. Callaway Golf, also a longtime partner of Annika’s provides bags, hats and golf balls for player’s use. Their consistent support has been instrumental in the success of the event and is very much appreciated by Annika and the ANNIKA Foundation.
During the course of the tournament the girls get to hang out with Annika, and most of them start out shy and a little star struck. However, that fades some as Annika makes it a point to spend time with them and of course take some photos. On the last day of the tournament Annika conducts a clinic for the girls, hosts a Q&A session, and then sits down with them for lunch.
