Inaugural ANNIKA Invitational Europe Begins

31 Aug 2012 / 0 Comments / in ANNIKA Invitational, Featured Homepage, News/by Amanda

New Location, New Golfers for the ANNIKA Invitational

The first-ever ANNIKA Invitational Europe began in Sweden today. This location now expands the ANNIKA Invitational to three countries, with Sweden joining the United States and China in hosting the junior tournament. This is an exciting development for the ANNIKA Foundation and continues Annika’s mission of  helping junior golfers achieve their dreams.

Female junior golfers, under 18-years-old, from 11 different European countries were invited to play this weekend. Girls traveled from Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Norway, Slovakia, Spain, Germany, Austria and the host country, Sweden.  Just like the professional women tours this will be a 54 hole stroke event over the next three days. Signage and tents also make this event feel very professional which makes the event even more special for the girls.

Among the star-filled line-up of players, with four of the six Swedish girls who won European Championship gold just last month in Germany –  Isabella Deilert, Emma Nilsson, Linnea Power and Elsa Westin.

The event is being held at Linköping GK, which will be fair test for every golf game. The young women will be playing to 5288 meters (5783 yds.) which will take the advantage of the longer drivers away. This is a parkland course designed in 1949. With its small greens on a slant, subtle bunkers that demand accuracy from the tee and on your approach shots, Linköping is a layout that will demand imagination and, possibly every club in your bag.
