TORONTO – Junior female golf players from across Ontario will have the opportunity to play with two of the best female golfers at the fourth Scotiabank Women’s Charity Challenge.
The event, taking place at Magna Golf Club on Tuesday, September 21, will feature golf superstars Annika Sorenstam, who has taken part in this tournament since its beginning, and Natalie Gulbis.
“Scotiabank is proud to be able to offer these up-and-coming golfers the opportunity to meet and learn from Annika and Natalie, two of the sport’s most talented women,” said Sylvia Chrominska, Group Head, Global Human Resources and Communications, Scotiabank. “This event demonstrates how important it is for all women who have achieved success to take the time to work with young women who want to follow in their footsteps.”
The day will include a 9-hole shotgun tournament for participants and a clinic conducted by the golfing greats. The afternoon will feature a 9-hole exhibition match by Annika and Natalie that will incorporate the nine top ranked Canadian Junior girls.
The junior players taking part in this year’s event are: Jenna Hague of Burlington, Casey MacNeil of Massey, Meghan McDougall of Markham, Brogan McKinnon of Mississauga, Samantha Spencer of Georgetown and Vivian Tsui of Markham.
Sorenstam is recognized as one of the finest female athletes of all time and was rated one of the best golfers on the LPGA Tour. Gulbis has been playing golf since the age of four and is an LPGA tournament winner and won the Evian Masters in 2007.
Scotiabank and key presenting sponsors, Fidelity Investments, KPMG and Bell are hoping to build on the $700,000 raised for charities over the previous three tournaments. All proceeds benefit a host of women’s charities across Canada. Recipients have included a variety of charities supporting women’s shelters, employment services, treatment centers and cancer foundations nationwide.
Scotiabank supports a number of women’s charities, including Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada, Sheena’s Place, The World Conference on Breast Cancer and The London Health Sciences Foundation.
