Nine Healthy Habits page header

The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits were created through collaboration among the ANNIKA Foundation, The First Tee, and Florida Hospital for Children to promote healthy, active lifestyles for young people. As the national spokesperson for the NHH, Annika can share her passion of teaching children the importance of living a healthy, active lifestyle through fitness and nutrition. The Nine Healthy Habits are a comprehensive approach to youth wellness that addresses physical, emotional and social health in nine, one-word habits so children can more easily identify and memorize. They are delivered in elementary schools as part of The First Tee National School Program and through The First Tee chapters’ Life Skills Experience.

 Annika’s Thoughts

Why is school important?

School has many functions. It’s not just as basic as learning the alphabet, reading, spelling and other skills. School is a place where we interact with others, build friendships and learn by going to class daily.  We absorb facts and get tested on how to implement our knowledge in different ways in a structured environment. It’s a place that prepares us for our future in an educational way. Homework, grades and projects teach accountability and responsibility as well as how to work independently and in groups.

Tips from Annika on Using Your “Mind”

Mind

Definition – The element in an individual that feels, perceives, thinks, wills and reasons.

Why it important? – The mind is a powerful tool for health. One’s mind influences his/her emotions and behaviors and can be utilized for self-improvement, building confidence and maintaining perspective.

Tips from Annika

How important is the mental aspect compared to the physical aspect of golf?

I believe the mental aspect of the game is equally important. It’s harder to judge and measure than say a golf shot or a putt, but a clear, direct and positive mind makes the difference. Golf is all about a strong mind. The mind can be trained and it’s imperative that you perceive a positive and successful attitude. A happy mind gives energy and results in confident body language.
