When most people think of golf, they think of it as a fun sport that can be played by anyone. However, with the game comes a distinct etiquette that is to be followed while out on the course. Learning these rules is especially important so that respect is shown to the course and other players.
Here are a few of the biggest ones.
1. Care for the Course
It is always important to respect the course and make sure you leave it the same way you would like to find it. This means repairing pitch marks, replacing divots and raking bunkers.
2. Dress Code
While rules vary from club to club, there is a certain dress code that is meant to be followed by both girls and boys. Generally, males should wear dress shorts or pants with a collared shirt, and females typically wear sport pants, shorts or skirts with a collared shirt. It is always smart to check club dress code just to be sure there aren’t any more formal guidelines.
3. Pace of Play
It ‘ never fun when you’re waiting at every hole because of a slow group in front of you. This is why it is important for beginners to learn to be considerate of others. Simple tricks to avoid slow play include being ready to play when it’s your turn, staying off your phone and picking up when appropriate. Overall, be mindful of other groups around you.
4. Respect
Respect is one of the most important parts of golf. This includes practicing good sportsmanship and not causing any distractions for other players. They will appreciate your consideration and it will make the round a lot more fun.
There are plenty of other rules to learn, but these basics will serve you well if you’re headed out on the course for the first time. Happy Golfing!
