Lake Elmo, Minn. - Round one of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M came to a close on Monday afternoon with South Carolina in the lead after shooting a 10-under-par 278.
Pacing the Gamecocks and leading the individual competition is freshman Hannah Darling. Darling, who was recognized on the ANNIKA Award Watch List, carded a bogey-free 6-under-par to start her collegiate career. Darling began her round hot, with four birdies in the front nine and two in the back.
One stroke back in the individual competition is Julia Johnson of Ole Miss, while Yu-Sang Hou of Arizona and Benedetta Moresco of Alabama sit two strokes back. Johnson recorded an eagle and five birdies on the day to go with a duo of bogeys. Hou started with a strong showing of 1-under in her first nine, but became even stronger with a 3-under back half. Moresco found herself at even-par at the turn and later recorded four birdies to end the day at 4-under.
In the team competition, Duke (-3) and Wake Forest (-2) follow closely behind South Carolina. Arizona State, Southern California and UCLA are in a tie for fourth at 1-under.
Second-round tee times will run from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. CT on hole one and 8:05 to 9:35 a.m. CT on hole ten. Tuesday at Royal Golf Club. Click here for the pairings.
